THE FINEST COMMENTARY ON REVELATION IN OVER 100 YEARS:

The Final Prophecy of Jesus: An Introduction, Analysis, and Commentary on the Book of Revelation

Welcome to Historicism.com!

Our purpose for this web-site is to encourage people to study end-times prophecy in the Bible. Too many Christians have missed out on the blessing that comes from the study of this important subject because they are intimidated and confused by it. The subject of prophecy is extremely controversial. Many pastors and teachers of the Bible are less than eager to teach on the book of Revelation for this reason. Frankly, the science-fiction theories preached by many of today's Church leaders are largely to blame for this state of affairs.
At Historicism.com, as our site name suggests, we provide resources teaching, explaining, and encouraging Christians to consider the historicist understanding of biblical prophecy. This interpretation was favoured by many of the great writers, thinkers and preachers of the historic Christian church since the Reformation of the 16th century. While the earliest Reformers, like Martin Luther and John Calvin, did interpret prophecy according to a historicist framework, they retained the interpretation of "the thousand years" of Revelation 20, known today as, "Amillennialism," that was promoted at that time by the Roman Catholic Church. From the late 16th century until the 20th century, the historicist interpretation of prophecy, coupled with a "Premillennial" view of Revelation 20, was common among Bible-believing Protestants around the globe. That particular brand of end-times beliefs, called, "Premillennial Historicism," was accompanied by a great surge in world missions, the founding of many mission-minded Bible institutes and colleges, and a wealth of creative and doctrinally sound literature engaging the issues of the times. Some of the most influential men who shared the premillennial historicist interpretation, and lived during this period, included Henry Grattan Guinness, A. J. Gordon, Charles H. Spurgeon and A. B. Simpson.

The last century has seen a sharp decline in the vitality and doctrinal understanding of the vast majority of Christians in Europe, New Zealand, Australia and North America. This website was born out of the conviction that a recovery of the conviction, based on solid biblical study, that the Lord's return is rapidly approaching, can help spur Christians around the world to make the most of the time that remains for this present Age. This goal can be accomplished in three primary ways:

The sun is setting on this age. Our Lord is returning, probably sooner than we think. Not only do Christians need the blessing and encouragement to be found in Bible prophecy, they also need to understand the warnings that it contains. One of the great purposes of biblical prophecy is to spur Christians to faithfulness, and perseverance, in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with a world that, today, needs it more than ever. The world does not suspect how soon the Day of The Lord is coming. The sun is setting on a church that has fallen asleep. Jesus may return at any moment, maybe even tomorrow...

"...there are two purposes for predictive prophecy. The chief purpose is to affect the conduct of those who hear the prophecy. Another purpose is met only when the prophecy is fulfilled. That purpose is to build faith, to establish confidence in the God who miraculously foretold events (John 13:19; 14:29; 16:4)."
(Understanding and Applying the Bible, p. 215, by J.Robertson McQuilken, Moody Press, Chicago, ILL, 1983)

"From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He." John 13:19

"Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe." John 14:29

"But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you." John 16:4

Read about two famous evangelical preachers, teachers, and writers, who had an incredible impact on the Evangelical Church in North America, and who were both premillennial historicists: A.J. Gordon and H. Grattan Guinness!

We recommend the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible. However, we realize that many fellow-Christians have significant reservations about modern Bible translations. Therefore we highly recommend the Bible of the Reformers, the 1599 Geneva Bible.
